How close can you get a colour by eye?
Color Hunch shows you a real photograph with one element stripped of its colour. You dial that colour back with hue, saturation and brightness, and the guess is scored by how far it lands from the real colour to the eye — not by how far you moved the dials. Four modes, 326 authored stages, 34 languages.

What it solves
Most colour games show you a flat swatch and score your guess by how far you moved the sliders. Neither measures how well you actually read colour: a flat swatch takes a colour out of the context that gives it meaning, and slider distance punishes you for approaching a hue from the wrong side while rewarding a lucky landing that still looks wrong.
Color Hunch changes both. The colour sits inside a real photograph — the red of a flag, the orange of a logo — and the score measures the difference an eye would see.
How it works
One element of the picture is shown without its colour. As you turn the hue, saturation and brightness dials, the colour changes directly on the artwork; when you submit, the picture repaints in its real colour and you see how close you came.
The score comes from how far your colour sits from the real one in CIEDE2000, the standard formula for measuring colour difference the way the human eye perceives it. Two guesses that look equally close to the eye therefore score about the same, even when the dials sit in very different places.
Alongside colour guessing there are three more modes: finding the one tile in a grid whose colour is a shade off, rebuilding a colour from memory after five seconds, and telling a real logo apart from the version people misremember.
Two surfaces, one game
The iPhone and iPad app is the whole game: every stage, every category, leaderboards, friends and the daily challenge.
colorhunch.com is the same game in the browser, deliberately limited — the first ten stages of each mode and two of the five categories. It needs no account, progress is kept only in the browser and never sent anywhere, and the site is published in 34 languages with translated URL paths.
